Web-based Informatics module - WIM
in the context of the "European Consortium of Innovative Universities - ECIU"

Aim

In the context of this project an interactive, net-based exploration module for the education of Informatics beginners is going to be developed.

Conception

  1. What is Informatics?
    definitions, fields, classification
  2. Programming
    • from the problem to the algorithm
    • basic concepts of algorithms
    • basic concepts of programming: operators, value assignment, conditional assignments, loops, floating-point numbers, functions, recursion, classes and objects, pointer structures
    • overview about programming styles: imperative, object-oriented, functional, declarative
  3. Algorithms and data structures
    • asymptotic cost analysis
    • sorting, searching
  4. Semantics and verification
  5. Computer structures von-Neumann-computer, boolish algebra, circuits, operating systems
  6. Theoretical basics
formal languages and grammars, finite automata, working principles of compilers, turing machines, concept of calculatibility, NP-completeness
